How to Travel Safely with Kids in Moscow: Taxi with Child Seat, Airport Transfers, and Public Transport

Traveling with kids always requires a little extra planning—especially in a big, bustling city like Moscow. With heavy traffic and long distances between attractions, choosing the right transport is essential. One of the top priorities for any family is safety, and that means making sure your child has the right car seat—especially when taking a taxi or airport transfer.

When I arrived in Moscow with my family, one of my first concerns was how to get from the airport to our hotel safely. A regular taxi wouldn’t work—I needed a child car seat. Luckily, Moscow has several services that offer taxis with child seats, including reliable transfers from Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, and Vnukovo airports. These services are family-friendly and even allow you to choose the seat based on your child’s age and weight.

What types of child seats are available?

If you're traveling with a child, it’s important to understand the different seat categories:

  • Group 0/0+ — for newborns up to 12 months (up to 13 kg). These are rear-facing infant seats.

  • Group 1 — for kids from 9 to 18 kg (approx. 9 months to 4 years old).

  • Group 2/3 — for children from 15 to 36 kg (approx. 4 to 12 years old), usually booster seats with a seat belt.

  • Some services let you specify by age: 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 years old, to help select the right booster or seat.

If you’re unsure which seat to request, it’s best to contact the taxi service in advance. Ask if the car seat is ISOFIX-compatible—this system ensures the seat is anchored securely to the vehicle frame, reducing the risk of incorrect installation.

Important seat belt tips

Even if your child is old enough for a booster seat, seat belt safety is non-negotiable. The seat belt should sit across the child’s shoulder and chest—not the neck—and must be tight and flat. Never hold a child in your lap during the ride—it’s dangerous even at low speeds.

Where to book taxis with child seats in Moscow

Reliable services offering airport taxis with child seats in Moscow include:

  • Dedicated airport transfer companies

  • Business-class taxi services

  • App-based platforms with a “child seat” option (like Yandex Go or Citymobil’s “Kids” category)

Personally, I book through an app that lets me enter the age of my child—this helps ensure the car arrives with the correct type of seat.

Getting around Moscow with kids by public transport

If you plan to use public transport in Moscow, the city offers many convenient options:

  • Metro – fast, clean, and safe. Children under 7 ride for free.

  • Buses and trams – modern and stroller-accessible.

  • Trains and MCD – great for trips to the suburbs or theme parks.

However, rush hour can be challenging with kids, especially if you have a stroller. When possible, plan your route to avoid transfers and look for stations with elevators or ramps—many of the newer metro stations offer these amenities.

A personal note

As a mom of two, I’ve learned the key is planning. From pre-booking the right taxi to knowing how to navigate public transport, being prepared makes all the difference. Moscow is a well-developed city, and if you use the resources available—taxis with child seats, correct booster seats, and knowledge of how to move around—you can enjoy a safe and smooth journey with your family.
