Before you soak up the family beach ambience of Playa del Carmen, you will have to get there from your accommodations and this may involve taking a family taxi.  If so, make sure that the one you choose has enough kid friendly seating to accommodate all the children in your family.  A new baby will need a baby car seat, whilst toddlers have to be hog tied to keep them still in a car booster seat.

 

From May to September each year, huge whale sharks appear in the waters of the Riviera Maya.  While you are busy building a sand castle with the kids on one of the postcard perfect beaches at Playa del Carmen, these grand specimens of the ocean will be busy lolling in the warm waters offshore.

 

Tiny shells wait to be collected by little busy toddler hands along the shoreline, sand castle building takes on architectural flair when a moat for the water is added.  When the beach loses its appeal for the children, take the gremlins to the playground near Parque Fundadores, or to one of the freshwater cenotes near Tulum where psychedelic fish play. 

 

The aviary at Xaman-Ha will let the children check out the colorful native birds, with or without a dripping ice cream in hand. For the big day out with endless kiddy adventures to be had, take the children to Xcaret eco-park where everything and anything happens that could appeal to toddlers or young kids.
