Child Car Seat Selection
Which seat does your child need for a taxi or airport transfer?
Last updated: June 2026 | Reviewed against ECE R44/04 and ECE R129 (i-Size) EU safety standards | taxibambino.com
This page explains each seat type we offer, the weight and age ranges they cover, how they are installed, and — importantly — which EU safety standards they meet.
Taxibambino.com offers four seat types across our own fleet and our partner network. Availability varies by city.
Infant Carrier
For newborns and babies up to approximately 13 kg — typically from birth to around 12–15 months, though weight is the determining factor.
The infant carrier is the first seat a child uses and the most safety-critical. It is always installed rear-facing, meaning the baby faces the back of the vehicle.
Specifications
Weight range: Up to 13 kg (Group 0 and Group 0+)
Typical age: Newborn to approximately 12–15 months
Orientation: Rear-facing only
Harness type: 3-point or 5-point internal harness
EU standard: ECE R44/04 (Group 0/0+) or ECE R129 (i-Size, up to 87 cm)
Installation: Seat belt or ISOFIX, depending on the specific seat model
Forward-Facing Child Seat
For toddlers and young children from approximately 9 kg to 18 kg — typically from around 12 months (once they have outgrown their rear-facing carrier) to approximately 4 years.
Specifications
Weight range: 9–18 kg (Group 1)
Typical age: Approximately 12 months to 4 years
Orientation: Forward-facing
Harness type: 5-point internal harness
EU standard: ECE R44/04 (Group 1) or ECE R129 (i-Size, 76–105 cm height)
Installation: Seat belt plus top tether, or ISOFIX
High-Back / Booster Seat
For children from approximately 15 kg to 25 kg — typically from around 4 years to 6 years. Some high-back boosters extend coverage to 36 kg.
Specifications
Weight range: 15–25 kg (Group 2), or 15–36 kg in combined Group 2/3 seats
Typical age: Approximately 4–6 years (or up to 10–11 years for combined seats)
Orientation: Forward-facing
Restraint: Vehicle seatbelt (no internal harness)
EU standard: ECE R44/04 (Group 2 or Group 2/3) or ECE R129 (i-Size)
Key feature: Head and shoulder wings provide lateral support and side-impact protection
Booster Cushion
For older children from approximately 22 kg to 36 kg — typically from around 6 years up to 10–12 years, or until the child is tall enough for the standard seatbelt to fit correctly without a booster.
The booster cushion is the simplest type of child seat — a padded platform that the child sits on to raise their seating position. Like the high-back booster, it works by repositioning the vehicle's seatbelt across the correct parts of the child's body. Unlike the high-back booster, there is no backrest or headrest — it provides seatbelt positioning only, with no side-impact or head protection.
Specifications
Weight range: 22–36 kg (Group 3)
Typical age: Approximately 6–12 years
Orientation: Forward-facing
Restraint: Vehicle seatbelt (no internal harness, no backrest)
EU standard: ECE R44/04 (Group 3) — note: ECE R129 no longer allows new backless booster certification
Height indicator: The seatbelt shoulder strap should cross the middle of the child's shoulder.
