What Spanish law actually says about child car seats
Spanish law (Real Decreto 1428/2003, Article 117) requires children under 135 cm to travel in an approved child restraint. There's a specific exemption for taxis, but it's narrower than it's often described: it applies only when the vehicle is operating within urban traffic or a built-up area, and only with the child in the back seat. A transfer from Palma Airport to almost any Mallorca resort — Alcúdia, Santa Ponsa, Playa de Muro, or elsewhere — uses a motorway for most of the journey, which is interurban driving, not urban traffic. The exemption doesn't apply, and an approved seat is legally required for the whole trip.

Which car seats are available
Three types cover almost every family, all ECE R44/04 or i-Size (R129) certified. A rear-facing infant carrier suits babies up to around 13 kg. A forward-facing seat with an integral harness covers roughly 9–18 kg. A high-back booster raises older children so the adult belt sits correctly, up to Spain's 135 cm threshold.
