FAQ Taxi with car seats

The most common Questions we get and Answers

Berlin
Q: Do taxis in Berlin have car seats?
A:Some of them.

German law requires that all children under 12 years of age or shorter than 150cm be adequately strapped to approved car seats to ride as passengers in cars. This regulation applies everywhere in Germany, including Berlin.
For this reason, some taxis in Berlin have car seats. Some have the car seats already installed in the back seat, while others have the safety seats in the trunk to be quickly installed when needed. Taxis in Berlin that do not have car seats will not allow you to ride with them if you have little ones in your company.

Q:Can you put a car seat in a taxi?
A:Yes, you can.
Since German law forbids traveling in cars without safely strapping little ones in car seats or booster seats, the only way to move with your kid in Berlin is to put a car seat in a taxi.
However, this does not mean you should travel to Berlin with your infant car seats or safety booster seats. Some taxis in Berlin have car seats, and Taxi Bambino can help you arrange such taxis to make the trip safe for your little ones.

Q:Do German taxis have car seats?
A:Some of them.
Ordinarily, taxis do not come with car seats. However, because of the German law requiring that children (less than 12 years old or shorter than 150cm) ride in car seats, some taxi operators in Germany arrange car seats.
Those who do not have approved car seats will not allow you to ride with them if you have little ones because that will attract a €60 fine.

Q:How do you travel with a baby in a taxi?
A:Regarding baby passengers, the German car seat regulation (which applies to Berlin) stipulates that babies under three years of age must ride in approved infant car seats or safety booster seats.
Also, the car seats must not be installed in the front seats of the vehicles, where airbags may be present.

New York
Q: Do you need a car seat in a taxi in New York?
A: Legally, you don’t.
There are car seat laws in the United States requiring that children who travel with you in cars be safely strapped in car seats or booster seats. However, these laws vary according to different states.
Interestingly, in New York City, the safety car seat laws do not apply to taxis and for-hire vehicles. The Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) says that New York State laws only require drivers and front-seat passengers to wear a seatbelt.
However, while in NYC, you may not need a safety car seat in a taxi to satisfy any law, but you need it for the safety of your children. For this reason, the TLC encourages families with children to bring their own car seats. In this case, the taxi drivers must allow you to install them.

Q: Does Uber have car seats in New York?
A: Most don’t, but you can arrange it.
Generally, Uber falls under taxi cab laws, which do not require that children ride in safety car seats. So, in some New York cities, you can take Uber rides with your little one without using car seats.
However, knowing the importance of car seats, in most cities, Uber requires that children passengers use car seats regardless of how the law applies.
You can come with your car seat, and the Uber driver will allow you to install it. Alternatively, you can request an Uber car with a car seat at an additional cost ($10).

Q: Can you take a taxi in NYC with a toddler?
A: You certainly can.
