Skiathos Taxi Fares — How They Work
Taxi fares in Skiathos are regulated by the Greek Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. Fares are metered and taxis use a taximeter. There are two tariffs:
• Tariff 1 (day rate): applies within the perimeter zone of the taxi's base (έδρα). Base charge: €1.80. Per km: €0.90. Minimum fare: €4.00.
• Tariff 2 (night/outside town): applies outside that zone — which covers almost all airport and beach transfers, including in broad daylight — and everywhere between 00:00 and 05:00. Per km: €1.25, about 39 % above Tariff 1 rather than double it. A meter showing "2" at midday on an airport run is correct.
• Additional charges: airport pick-up or drop-off: €4.00. Port, rail or KTEL bus station: €1.07. Luggage of 10 kg or more: €0.39 per piece. Telephone pre-booking: up to €5.65. Waiting during the journey: €20.00 per hour. There is no public-holiday or Christmas supplement in the national tariff.
Important: there is no Uber and no Bolt on Skiathos. Ride-hailing apps are not available on the island. Your options are the official taxi rank, calling a taxi by phone, or a pre-booked transfer. For families needing a car seat, pre-booking is the most reliable option.
Greek Car Seat Law and Skiathos Taxis
Greek law requires an approved child seat for children under 135 cm; from 135 to 150 cm the adult seat belt may be used. Licensed taxis have an exemption, but only for a child in a rear seat. Sources disagree on whether the taxi exemption also covers children under 3, so bring or pre-book a seat for babies and toddlers. In the front passenger seat the exemption does not apply. The fine reported under the new Highway Code (Law 5209/2025) is €350 plus 30 days' licence removal. In practice, most Skiathos taxis carry no child seat at all. Skiathos Airport (JSI) — What Families Need to Know
Skiathos Alexandros Papadiamantis Airport (IATA: JSI) is one of Greece’s most distinctive airports — its short 1,627-metre runway means approaching aircraft fly very low over the beach road, creating a famous spectacle. It is located just 4.5 km northeast of Skiathos Town. Two terminal areas (International and Domestic) sharing a single taxi rank outside the International Arrivals building, open 24 hours.
• Taxi rank: directly outside the Arrivals building. Metered taxis. In peak summer (July–August), when 150–200 passengers arrive on a charter flight and there are 5–10 taxis, wait times can be 30–60 minutes. Pre-booking eliminates this entirely.
• Bus: Line 1 connects JSI to Skiathos Town and continues along the south coast to Koukounaries for just €2. Excellent value for adults with light luggage. No car seat. Not suitable for families with an infant in a carrier and suitcases.
• No Uber, no Bolt: not available on Skiathos. Pre-booked transfers (Taxibambino) or rank taxis are the only private vehicle options.

Skiathos Taxi Fares — All Main Routes
All fares in EUR. Skiathos is a small island (about 13 km long), and even the furthest destinations are within 15 km of the airport. These are estimates derived from the metered Tariff 2 rate, which applies to all airport and out-of-town transfers, plus the €4.00 airport surcharge. Skiathos has no legally fixed airport fare — in Greece those exist only at Athens, Thessaloniki and Kavala. Pre-booked Taxibambino transfers offer confirmed fixed EUR prices.
JSI → Skiathos Town (port, Old Town, restaurants)
€8–12 metered · 4–5 km · 5–10 min. One of the shortest and cheapest taxi transfers from any Greek island airport. The taxi rank at the port (New Port area) also serves passengers arriving by ferry.
JSI → Achladies / Kanapitsa
€15–22 metered · 6–10 km · 10–18 min. Popular resort area with family-friendly sandy beaches south of Skiathos Town.
JSI → Troulos / Agia Paraskevi
€15–25 metered · 7–10 km · 10–18 min. Quieter beaches mid-island. Troulos has a small sandy bay good for families with young children.
JSI → Koukounaries (golden beach)
€18–28 metered · 10–12 km · 12–20 min. Koukounaries is Skiathos’s most famous beach — a long crescent of golden sand backed by pine trees. One of Greece’s most celebrated family beaches. Also accessible by bus (Line 1, €2) from the airport, but no car seat on the bus.
JSI → Banana Beach / Krassa
€18–28 metered · 10–12 km · 12–20 min. Two adjacent beaches (Big Banana and Little Banana) near Koukounaries, popular with families.
Skiathos Town → Koukounaries (beach run)
€12–20 metered · 8–10 km · 10–15 min. The most common in-island taxi route. Bus Line 1 covers this for €2, but again no car seat.

Car Seat Types Available for Skiathos Transfers
All seats meet ECE R44/04 or ECE R129 (i-Size). Greek law requires a child seat under 135 cm in private vehicles; in taxis children may ride without one only in a rear seat. Provide weight and height when booking.

The road is closed briefly during landings.
