Lanzarote is a dream destination for families, with its otherworldly landscapes, warm weather, and relaxed atmosphere. While the island doesn’t have a metro or train system, its bus network (known locally as "guaguas") is reliable, affordable, and perfect for exploring the island’s highlights. Whether you’re heading to a volcanic park, a sandy beach, or an interactive museum, getting around with kids in Lanzarote is simple and stress-free.

Buses in Lanzarote and Gran Canaria – Connecting the Island’s Best Attractions

Intercity buses in Lanzarote are operated by the company "IntercityBus Lanzarote," and they connect all major towns and tourist areas. The most frequent routes run between Arrecife (the island’s capital), Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise, and Playa Blanca – the main resort areas that are all popular with families.

Bus 161 is a key route that connects Arrecife with the airport and Puerto del Carmen. Bus 3 and 25 run between Costa Teguise and Arrecife, and Bus 60 links Arrecife to Playa Blanca. These buses are stroller-friendly and air-conditioned, making them comfortable for family travel.

Reaching Family Attractions by Bus

To visit the famous Timanfaya National Park, take a bus to Yaiza or Mancha Blanca and join a guided tour from there, as public buses do not go directly into the park’s interior. Rancho Texas Park, a family-favorite animal and water park near Puerto del Carmen, is accessible via Bus 3 or 161 followed by a short taxi ride.

For a beach day, Playa Grande (Puerto del Carmen), Playa Bastián (Costa Teguise), and Playa Dorada (Playa Blanca) are all within easy reach via the main bus routes.

Tickets and Travel Passes

Bus tickets can be purchased directly on board from the driver. Fares are based on distance and typically range from €1.40 to around €3.50. There’s currently no official multi-day tourist pass, but frequent travelers may benefit from a rechargeable travel card called the "Bono Bus."

Schedules and routes are available on the IntercityBus Lanzarote website or at local bus stops, and buses generally run on time.

Do Kids Need a Ticket?

Children under 4 travel for free on Lanzarote’s buses. Children aged 4 and over require a full fare ticket. There are currently no tourist-specific child discounts, but the fares are low enough that travel remains affordable for families.

Closest Stops to Key Family Spots

Arrecife’s bus station gives access to the Science and Art Museum (MIAC) and the Castillo de San Gabriel. In Costa Teguise, the Aquarium Lanzarote is a favorite for families and reachable by Bus 3 or 25. Playa Blanca is ideal for visiting the marina or taking a ferry to Fuerteventura, with Bus 60 connecting you from other parts of the island.
