Car seat regulations in Spain

While travelling in Spain, it is compulsory for all the car seats and not only the child seat to be EU-CE approved. To maximize the chance of survival of children in case of sudden emergency stops or accidents, it is mandatory for children to be seated in approved seats especially designed for the safety of the children.
For children up to 9 months or 10 kg in weight, it is compulsory that a carrycot be laid across the rear seat and secured with the car’s safety belt. In absence of safety belt, any other specially approved attachment can be used for children. Children weighing 10kg to 13kg and up to 2 years of age must be seated in a child’s car seat fitted in the rear with the face of the child in the rearwards direction.
For children weighing 9kg to 18kg and from 9 months to 3 years old, child seats must be facing frontwards or rearwards , fitted in the rear of the car and secured with safety attachments. It is mandatory for children weighing 15kg to 25kg and 3 to 6 years of age to use a seat adaptor for lifting the child up in order to fit properly. The seat belt adaptor must be a CE-EU approved one.
From 22kg to 36kg and 6 to 12 years of age children also, a seat elevator must be used in order to make the child protected with the help of seat belts. Children below 12 years of age are strictly prohibited from using the front seat.
