Child friendly Split
A child friendly destination, Split is inundated during the months from mid July to mid August with hordes of marauding families with kids. This is break the bank balance time, so if you can go out of peak season and avoid the sweltering heat and the hot prices, then do so.
Take the children exploring through the Split Dioletian Palace City Center where you can wear out the kids making them climb the bell tower of Cathedral St Duje. This 1700 year-old town is fun to explore and the children can also make a wish after rubbing the thumb of the statue of Grgur Ninski. Rent some pushbikes, if the kids are old enough to ride and cycle to one of the gorgeous Split beaches for a wallow in the refreshing water or attempt to play beach volleyball at the dwarf level. Pebbly or sandy, the beaches are gorgeous with Lopar Village on the Rab Island having 22 to choose from.
If the salt water doesn't appeal to the family, go to Plitvice Lakes and take a dip under a cascading turquoise waterfall. There is also the de rigueur waterpark, Aquapark Istralandia, that is 15 minutes outside of Novigrad. Get the kids playing dare devil on Croatia's tallest water slide or laze around in one of the pools.
Take a boat ride through the Plitvice Lakes National Park or have a special one on one moment with the child over 9, white water rafting down the Cetina River. Get the family tribe into snorkeling, or just teach them how to duck their head under the clear water if that is the stage the kids are up to.
Split Airport is also known as Resnik Airport, is located 24 km from the town of Split. On arrival ensure that you grab a airport transfer or airport taxi fitted out with seating such as a baby car seat or a booster car seat to keep the little ones safe and happy.
